De Lady in de Tutti Frutti Hat
A Musical
The Second World War was about to start and Hollywood panicked. Loosing the European audience was too risky for the movie industry. New audiences had to be found, and what’s better than the brothers and sisters south of the border. A new era began – banana movies for banana republics. In the center of the banana movies stood Carmen Miranda, the queen of samba. Imported from Rio she became a Hollywood star, the front runner in the propaganda war. They called her the Brazilian Bombshell, the queen of the banana movies. De Lady in de Tutti Frutti Hat is her story.
